  • In the eastern Ore Mts. the healthy conditions of birch stands (Betula pendula Roth.) were monitored during 1995-1999. Birch insect pests occur for long-term in their basic state with local increased proportion, e.g., of miners from the genus Eriocrania,of mites (Phyllocoptes lionotus Nal., Aceria rudis Can.). The presence of phytophages with gradation potential and of new species not studied hitherto (E. trigonella, M. lapponica) makes birch stands of the eastern Ore Mts. endangered continuously. The elevation differentiated mites’ occurrence, proportion defoliation by miners (Eriocrania sp., Coleophora serratella L.) and that by weevils (at lower elevations), and distribution of leaf fungal pathogens Discula sp.(at higher elevations).
