Description
| - A three dimensional model is used to upscale transpiration from a leaf level Jarvis-type conductance model to a whole tree in a Quercus Ilex L. stand. The information on the three dimensional structure of vegetation is collected with a ground based LiDAR system, while the light environment is derived with ray tracing technology. The results of the model are compared against sapflow measurements. Being this the first time that such an approach is used, focus is set on the reliability of the method (R2=0.88), and on some open questions on the way canopy structure must be considered. Correctness of beer's law and the concept of layer are briefly investigated.
