Description
| - Practical field work in non-equipped experimental plots, e.g., such situated in different terrain and soil conditions in the open landscape often requires modified research approaches, which are not frequently used in the rare experimental sites applied for detail physiological studies. Data of several variables relatively easily measurable at the whole tree and stand levels, e.g. sap flow, usually applied for transpiration studies, can be also utilized by other way in order to characterize effective tree structures. This was demonstrated on the example of effective tree crown (derived on the basis of diurnal dynamics of sap flow and solar radiation) and effective root distribution pattern, distinguishing superficial and sinker roots (derived on the basis of radial sap flow patterns in stem sapwood). The described approaches can be applied for further scientific analysis as well as for solving different practical problems.
