Description
  • Tree water relations and their architecture are among the most important phenomena for evaluation of behavior of species and forest stands. Series of practical examples based on long-term measurement of sap flow and estimation of root distribution in pure and mixed stands is presented to illustrate variation observed in distant sited, coniferous and broadleaf species and contrasting environmental conditions. Mixed stands composed of species with different rooting depth represent best combined strategy which assures stand survival under highly variable environmental conditions.
