Description	A strategic objective of the Czech Republic in the area of environmental protection is, in accordance with the Strategy of Sustainable Development of the Czech Republic, to ensure the highest possible quality of all components of the environment as well as optimum exploitation of natural resources. The objective of this study is to analyze the development of disparities between exploitation of natural resources and environmental protection in the regions of the Czech Republic in the years 2002-2008. The analysis is based on selected environmental indicators proposed by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic. Soil is recognized as an essential natural resource.
