Description
  • Indicators of soil fertility used in the Czech method SAGROS (Sustainable AGROSystems) for arable farming sustainability assessment are introduced. These are a balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic matter and erosion, which are included in a set of 21 indicators used. The ways of determining individual indicators and interpretation of results by evaluation functions and graphical presentation are explained using the example analysis of large farm management in practice. SAGROS is designed as a tool for the management of farms and oriented to: - rationalization and efficiency of cropping practices, - environment- and resources- friendly production, - elimination of management shortcomings regarding to sustainable development. SAGROS also increases the transparency of operations and communications within the enterprise. Using the results of analyses, the farms can document in detail the sustainable way of farming to their business partners, government authorities and public. It is of great importance for the maintenance of soil fertility in the Czech Republic since more than 90 % of agricultural land is leased to agriculture enterprises that farm on it. SAGROS can be used in crop production consultancy, in state administration, as a possible tool for assessment of business activities of farms and for implementation of subsidy programmes.
