Description	Changes in the water regime of plants in response to different irrigation management were studied in a pot experiment. Stress was induced by drought and its impact was observed on the behaviour of maize. Highly significant correlation coefficients were observed between sap flow and global radiation and air temperatures, respectively. Sap flow was statistically different between irrigation regimes. Effects of global radiation, vapour pressure deficit and water deficit on sap flow were determined. Compared to field conditions soil moisture has a greater effect on sap flow in pot trials (water availability is limited by pot size).
