| - ABSTRACT On the basement of the dormancy depth, tested by means of the ethylene, ethane and CO2 and abscisic acid (ABA) production of germinating achenes, the optimal conditions for caraway cultivation in the Czech Republic were determined. It was evidenced that the germinating activity of the achenes is affected by the growing locality (Huštěnovice -- boundary of maize and sugar beet production region, Šumperk -- margin of sugar beet and potato production region, Telč -- potato production region), by the variety (Rekord, Prochan, Kepron) and it is affected negatively by the high number of solar radiation hours in two last decades before the harvest. The ethylene and CO2 production during the germination is influenced by the growing locality and by the year of the harvest -- is influenced by the average day temperature and by the radiation intensity in the last two decades before the harvest negatively. The rainfall totals per the vegetative period has also negative effect on the ethylene production. The ABA content in the achenes is influenced by the locality and by the year of the harvest -- it is positively affected by the intensity of radiation and by the average day temperature in two last decades before the harvest. The achenes from the potato production region have higher content of ABA than the achenes come from sugar beet production region (lower ABA content -- lower dormancy -- higher germinating activity -- higher production of CO2 and ethylene and lower production of ethane).
