Description
  • Spring barley has a short vegetation time and therefore, it is extremely sensitive to any inadequacy in the growing technology, especially the nutritional deficiency. Moreover, problems regarding the insufficiency of selected microelements have started to emerge quite frequently. According to the findings of the Research Institute of Brewing and Malting, Plc., the limiting microelement in terms of the technological quality of barley is zinc. The deficiency of the native zinc content in the barley grain causes problems mainly during fermentation. Aside from that, zinc is an element that has an important function in plants, where, for example, it enters the chemism of indole auxins. By doing so, zinc indirectly affects the root system development, which is still the weakest part of the spring barley production process. The evaluation of the effect of the zinc leaf application on the yield and quality of the spring barley grain has been conducted since 2005 in the field experimental station in Žabčice.
