Description	The chapter is aimed at the evaluation of relationships between the rate of investments and the rate of savings in EEA-countries. In new member countries of the European Union, the rate of investments was exceeding the rate of savings in the most of the monitored period. In EU-15 countries as a whole, the rate of investments roughly corresponded to the rate of savings (on a long-term basis) but this chapter also highlights several exemptions from this state and current development in this field. For the purpose of comparison, a difference indicator between the rate of investments and the rate of savings in EEA-countries is monitored. Polynomial trends of the difference indicator of the rate of investments and the rate of savings in the reference period indicate similar developmental tendencies in several groups of countries under investigation. This analysis also proves if there is a correlation between the rate of investments and the rate of savings in most observed countries. Finally, the analysis of investments and savings presented in this paper can be than used and developed as part of the problem of an inter-temporal approach to the balance of payments.
