(cs) In this paper, I explain how both agency theory and rent seeking theory deal with the problem of corruption, how they resolve it and what the application difficulties of the classical suggested public policy measures are. The first section is dedicated to the explanation of corruption in the context of the agency theory based on the Becker and Stigler (1974) model. The second section addresses the explanation of corruption in the context of rent seeking based on the Tullock (1996) model. On comparison of both theories I argue that the rent seeking theory is able to specify exact institutional conditions more realistically than agency theory which lacks the specification of the institutional conditions in whose framework corruption occurs. On the other hand, when it comes to the definition of the exact institutional conditions, the rent seeking theory was found to be more normative. (en)
