Description
  • The paper deals with evaluation of anticorruption measures in the Czech and Slovak republics after 1998. The first section explains the theoretical concept based on Beckers and Stiglers (1974) model of agent decision making. The second section is dedicated to an empirical description of corruption in both countries with hard data statistics and soft data statistics (EBRD, 2007). While the Slovak Republic was more successful then the Czech Republic according to hard data statistics, the Czech Republic remains relatively less corrupt in the light of soft data surveys. If we accept the traditional democratic principles, we might say that the Slovak anticorruption strategy did not pay. Or, alternatively, any governmental effort to eliminate corruption in its organization does not pay.
