| - Paper analyzes competition of Czech breweries from the viewpoint of general factors influencing competitive rivalry identified by Porter. Rivalry is evaluated as intensive namely because of the growing concentration of the industry (five biggest groups serving almost three quarters of the market), market stagnation (domestic consumption has been on the level of 160 litres of beer per capita for almost thirty years), and the size of capacity augmentation. On the other hand, the rivalry can be decreased by differentiation, which seems to be the major source of potential competitive advantage in this industry. It can also be achieved by exploiting the potential of foreign markets, where the demand for Czech beers still grows, and a lot of breweries realize this (including those with annual production lower than 100 thous. hl). - Příspěvek analyzuje konkurenční boj českých pivovarů z pohledu Porterem identifikovaných obecných faktorů ovlivňujících intenzitu soupeření. Intenzita je hodnocena jako vysoká zejména z důvodu stále rostoucí koncentrace odvětví (5 největších skupin obsluhujících téměř 75 % trhu), stagnace trhu (již téměř 30 let je domácí spotřeba na úrovni 160 l piva za rok na obyvatele) a skokového zvyšování kapacity. Opačným směrem působí především různorodost konkurence, která se jeví jako hlavní potencionální zdroj konkurenční výhody. Tu lze získat také využitím potenciálu zahraničních trhů, na kterých je po českých pivech stále rostoucí poptávka, které již využívá celá řada pivovarů (včetně těch, jejichž produkce nepřesahuje 100 tis. hl za rok).
