Description
  • In the Czech Republic, the concept, definition and understanding of the term 'behavioural disorder' is very broad covering a variety of behaviours from temporary social maladaptation to the behaviour of breaking social and legal norms. Some children experience behavioural problems, referred to as 'behavioural disorders', of serious nature demanding attention. After exhausting all possibilities of preventive education care, these children are subsequently placed under special institutional care facilities. Presumably, their placement in such institutions significantly affects the quality of their lives, especially in the family and school contexts. The paper is focused on school success or failure concerning these children, which is linked to the degree of their satisfaction at school. Our goal shall be to specify how the children perceive themselves in the context of school work, by focusing on their self-esteem, attitude to learning, general academic skills such as reading, reading comprehension and counting, and also on their motivation to do well at school. Using a standardized school satisfaction questionnaire, we have carried out research in institutional care facilities for children aged 13-16 years. We expect that the results may affect the potential for desirable changes in these children's behaviour.
