Description
| - The abundance, distribution and bacterial community structure of hyporheic sediments was characterized by both DAPI-staining and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with fluorescently labelled 16S rRNA-targeted oligonucleotide probes. The total abundance of bacteria was dependent on both particle size and depth from which each size fraction was sampled, and showed no clear trend with increasing sediment depth. The abundance of sediment-associated Eubacteria (on average 35 % of DAPI-stained cells) declined with depth, while Archaea (on average 8% of DAPI-stained cells) showed no gradient in abundance with increasing depth. Our findings confirm that Archaea may occur commonly within well-oxygenated hyporheic sediments.

- Abundance, distribuce a struktura bakteriálního společenstva v hypohrheických sedimentech byly charakterizovány barvením DAPI a FISH s fluorescentně zančenými 16S rRNA oligonukleotidovými sondami. Celková abundance bakterií byla závislá na velikosti částic a hloubce, ze které byly každá frakce vzorkována a neukazovyla žádný jasný trend s hloubkou sedimentu. Abundance Eubacteria (v průměru 35 % DAPI obarvených buněk) klesal s hloubkou, zatímco Archaea (v průměru 8 % DAPI obarvených buněk) ukazovaly žádný gradient s hloubkou. Naše výsledky potvrzují, že Archaea se mohou běžně vyskytovat v relativně dobře oxických zónách hyporheických sedimentů. (cs)
