Description
  • The term %22Sympathy%22 and its opposite %22Antipathy%22 are very important concepts in the Natural Philosophy of the 16th and the 17th Centuries and have their origin in many conceptions of Sympathy in Antique Philosophy, Aristotelian, Epicurian, Stoic and Neoplatonic. According to Renaissance Philosophy in general the principle of %22Sympathy%22 is the main force in the Cosmos and as a doctrine can be found in many applications in Renaissance alchemy, magic and medicine. In the 16th century also in Wittenberg some treatises on sympathy were published, among others written by renowed Wittenberger thinkers and physicians, i.e. Philip Melanchton (1550), Caspar Peucer (1574), John of Jessen (1599). This article tries to find place of these treatises in the plurality of Renaissance thought on sympathy and to consider their particularity that could consist in the specificity of the Lutheran Natural Philosophy.

  • Termíny sympatie a antipatie, jejichž původ lze spatřit v mnoha antických filosofií, tj. aristotelismu, epikureismu, stoicismu a platonismu, patří mezi významné přírodně filosofické pojmy v 16. a 17. století. Philipp Melanchthon (1550), Caspar Peucer (1574) a Jan Jesenský (1599). Cílem studie je umístit tyto traktáty o sympatii do kontextu renesančního myšlení a poukázat na jejich specifičnost v rámci lutheránské přírodní filosofie. (cs)
