  • Adhering to the successful model of its opening year 2011, the Translation and Interpreting Forum Olomouc wanted to remain an open platform for academic exchange which embraced discussion with all players in the field of trans-language and trans-culture communication. Invitation to participate was extended to academics (teachers and postgraduate students), professional translators and interpreters, trade organizations and professional institutions, publishing houses, agencies providing language services, %22in-house%22 language departments of transnational corporations, companies developing support tools and technology. TIFO 2011 conference paid attention to the ongoing changes in the language industry and how they should be reflected in the training of future translators and interpreters. TIFO 2012 theme %22Tradition and Trends in Trans-Language Communication%22 expanded upon this discussion and sought to explore the broader context in which the above mentioned changes are happening, from both synchronic and diachronic perspective. The following topics were discussed: theory and history of translation and interpreting; literary translation; translation quality; intercultural and intracultural discourse; development and transferability of cross-language skills; language and industry issues; language through technology.
