Description	Conscience is bij de jongere generaties eigenlijk alleen nog bekend als schrijver van de Leeuw van Vlaanderen (1838).Toch was hij gedurende de hele tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw verreweg de meest gelezen Nederlandstalige schrijver in binnen- en buitenland. De bijdrage houdt zich bezog met de receptie van Consciene in Tsjechische vertaling en werpt daarbij voor het eerst ook een blik op de receptie in tijdschriften die zich op 'de kleine luiden' richtten. Die receptie blijkt al in 1846 te beginnenm, dus vlak na de eerste Duitse vertalingen, en aanzienlijk omvangrijker te zijn dan tot nog toe werd aangenomen. Conscience is known by younger generations mainly as the author of the Leeuw van Vlaanderen, his opus magnum from 1838. Nevertheless, he was during the second half of the nineteenth century the most popular Dutch writing author in the Low Countries as well as abroad. The paper gives a survey of the reception of Conscience's work in Czech translations and gives for the first time also an attempt to show the reception in periodicals oriented on 'ordinary people'. This reception starts as early as in 1846, thus just a few years after the first German translations of Conscience's work, which is extremely early. Moreover, the Czech reception of Conscience was much bigger than was known thus far. (en)
