Description	The paper presents results of the sociolinguistic investigation, accomplished in 2001 and 2003 in three Paraguayan departments, Itapúa, Concepción and Guairá. The paper compares the influence of four social variables (age, sex, residence, socio-cultural level) on the language selection, on the basis of the information obtained from respondents for different communication contexts. The statistic analysis shows that all four variables are statistically important, but while the age and sex are of a minor influence, the residence and socio-cultural level are decisive. On one hand, this brings us to the conclusion that Guarani is being transmitted through generations with (relatively) little losses and there is no general decision of not transmitting the language. On the other hand, the prestige of Spanish is confirmed not only by the preference of speakers of higher socio-cultural level, but also by the greater usage among women. (en) La ponencia presenta los resultados de la investigación sociolingüística, llevada a cabo en 2001 y 2003 en tres departamentos paraguayos, Itapúa, Concepción y Guairá. La ponencia compara la influencia de las cuatro variables sociales consideradas (edad, sexo, nivel sociocultural, residencia) en la selección lingüística, a base de las respuestas obtenidas para diferentes contextos comunicativos. El análisis estadístico de los datos obtenidos se?ala que las cuatro variables son estadísticamente significativas, pero mientras que la edad y el sexo tienen una influencia menor, la residencia y el nivel sociocultural son decisivos. Por una parte, esto nos lleva a la conclusión de que el guaraní sigue transmitiéndose entre las generaciones con pocas pérdidas y no existe una decisión general de no transmitir la lengua. Por otra parte, el prestigio del castellano viene confirmado no solamente por ser de uso preferido entre los hablantes de un mayor nivel sociocultural, sino también por el mayor uso femenino.
