The short comparative study %22Bridges between Argentinian and Czech literature: the grotesque and picaresque elements in the works of Roberto Arlt and Bohumil Hrabal%22 deals with the grotesque and picaresque characteristics of the main heroes of the novels El juguete rabioso (transl. A ferocious toy) and Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále (I served the English king). These characteristics are compared within the following parts: the society in which the protagonists live, the motive of a journey/service, the motive of money, the topic of liberty/madness/laughter and the motive of the narration/writing. The main theoretical basis for the analysis is Bachtin's work on the popular culture of the Middleages and Rennaisance together with the texts of Argentinian and Czech literary critics (Ana María Zubieta, Ricardo Piglia, Gerardo Goloboff, Radko Pytlík).
