Description
  • The paper discusses the existing variety of morphological agreement patterns appearing with Czech [+/-HUMAN] indefinite, negative, free choice and interrogative pronouns. To derive the underlying structures of the complex nominal projections, the author applied relatively simple rules relating morphology to syntax to propose that the distinct morphological patterns of the Czech pronouns are a result of a cyclic derivation applying to lexical elements as well as to syntactic processes. The stuidy relates the existing structures to those of Numerals and Quantifiers (Partitive Case and agreement patterns). Some idiosyncratic properties of both [+HUMAN] and [-HUMAN] indefinite, negative, free choice and interrogative pronouns are also explained assuming that they are grammatical post-cyclic elements not present/active in their position at the beginning of the derivational cycle (at the deep level of derivation).
