| - Introduction & Objectives Anterior urethral strictures that are too long to be excised and re-anastomosed are best treated with substitution urethroplasty using free graft or pedicled skin flaps. Another possibility is to use xenografts. The authors evaluate their experience with small intestinal submucosa (SIS) onlay patch in the treatment of non-resectable anterior urethral strictures from the functional point of view. Material & Methods In year 2003 from January to December SIS was used as an onlay patch in bulbar and penile urethra in 50 patients (45-73, av.56,4). Four layered SIS contains no cells therefore has no risk of rejection. Matrix is commercially available - SURGISIS SLH 4S, Cook Urological Inc. SIS was measured to fit the needed caliber without considering shrinkage and sutured in place with running 5-zero polyglactin sutures. The wound was closed in layers and a catheter was left in place for 3 weeks and only removed after radiological evidence of satisfactory healing (en)
