Description
  • This paper summarizes the results of laboratory experiments of the thermal reducing process of waste polymers and elastomers from the automotive industry, such as tires, color parts of lights and rubber windows seal, and also wood waste, primarily focused on monitoring the quality and composition of the resulting solid and gaseous products. The selected samples were analyzed for basic thermochemical properties (moisture content, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, elemental analysis, chlorine content, net calorific value). The results of analyzes of these materials appears to be very suitable for pyrolysis, mainly due to the high carbon content and low value of moisture. For each process it was monitored balance of outgoing products (gaseous products, liquid products and solid residue). The gaseous product was analyzed by gas chromatography, the following components were monitored: methane, ethylene, propane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The solid product produced during pyrolysis process was submitted to analysis of sorption capacity through the iodine adsorption number determination.
