Description
  • The materials research including environmental issues associated with braking is based on long-term cooperation between Center for Advanced Friction Studies, Southern Illinois University Carbondale (USA) and VSB ? Technical University Ostrava (Czech Republic). Our international team has NSF and Czech Science Foundation projects addressing the design of friction materials and monitoring of hazardous impacts related to braking. Several Ph.D. students from TUO have visited SIU to act as research assistants within these projects and to complete their theses with taking advantage of the research center sources. Our interdisciplinary projects are focused on assessment of friction materials in use and their potential impacts on ecosystem and human health as well. Due to the increasing number of automobiles in use and traffic density and the fact that braking is associated with release of some hazardous elements into the environment it is becoming a pressing environmental issue worldwide.
