Description
  • This paper deals with application of theoretical concepts such as resilience and adaptability in Central East European regions. The differences in character and development between Western and Central East European regions are described in this paper. Such differences represent applicability barrier of both concepts in Central East European regions. After basic theoretic introduction and methodology, the case study draws a comparison between the position of the Moravian-Silesian region and three other selected European regions. Through comparison of different selected economic, social and territorial aspects in relatively homogenous post-industrial areas, the attention is drawn to significant differences in all surveyed realms, which are caused by divergent evolution and character of the Central East European regions. Therefore modern western theoretical concepts such as adaptability and resilience are not well applicable for Central East Europe. Rather than trying to apply western concepts accent should be given to the creation of concepts tailored to the specific conditions of Central East European regions.
