  • The paper is devoted to experimental rolling of special shape sections from duplex austenitic-ferritic X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 steel in the special sections rolling mill VÚHŽ and compares the resulting parameters with results for ordinary structural steel grade S235J0. The key parameters monitored included the amount of sideways expansion, temperature of the rolling product upon individual passes, requirements for pressure on rolls and torque, roll gap expansion, the surface quality and the potential for controlling the microstructure during soaking and rolling. Cross-section shapes of products for both steel grades from matching passes were scanned and compared in AutoCAD LT 2007.The result was the verification of feasibility of rolling similar steel grades in the special section rolling mill at VÚHŽ a.s. An additional goal of the paper was to obtain comparison of results of a field experiment and results of finite element method calculation in Forge 3D software to verify the usability of Forge 3D for the needs of the special section rolling mill at VÚHŽ. The resulting shapes were compared with the partial prints of the field experiment. The sideways expansion of steel is strongly influenced by the chosen amount of friction. The higher the friction, the better is the agreement between the calculated shape and the partial print.
