Description
| - NiTi (Nitinol) alloys are used as metallic biomaterials with shape memory and superelasticity effects. Their properties and characteristics can be modified by small addition of Cu, Fe or other elements that can change corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. In this contribution the NiTi alloys with addition of Cu and Fe, pure NiTi, Ni and Ti were tested and compared with respect to pitting corrosion in artificial saliva. By means of standard potentiodynamic polarization method the positive influence of Cu addition (1-10%) on pitting resistance of NiTi alloy in as-received state and after heat treatment (850°C/0,5h/water) was proved. The smaller increase of pitting potentials values was recorded on NiTi with Fe (1-3%) according to final treatment. The values of repassivation and depassivation potentials of NiTi(Cu,Fe) alloys were smaller in comparison with steels (316) for implants.
