Description
| - Silver nanocomposites are useful for many industrial applications. A variety of conventional sol-gel preparative methods exists for Ag nanocomposites fabrication either bulk powder or thin films. Another type of Ag nacomposites are silver nanoparciles supported on inorganic materials, such as Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 etc., and also on phyllosilicates, such as montmorillonite (PRAUS et al., 2008) and kaolinite (PATAKFALVI et al., 2003). In this study we prepared silver nanoparticles supported on Na-rich montmorillonite (MMT) type Wyoming. At first, montmorillonite was intercalated with silver cations. Adsorption data were well fitted with Langmuir isotherm, which indicated that Ag+ formed monolayers on the MMT face. With increasing content of Ag+ the layered MMT structure gradually collapsed and exfoliated. Thereafter, the intercalated silver cations were reduced by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) and formaldehyde (CH2O). For the CH2O reduction various alkaline additives are necessary.
