Description
  • PVC has been widely used in households and industry because its physical and chemical properties provide exceptional merits. Problematic is the thermal utilization of PVC waste because it contains chlorine in his structure. When heating is applied, HCl gas is formed and corrode facilities and many chlorinated organic compounds (e.g. PCDD, PCDF, etc.) are formed. These products are toxic and decontamination of produced gases is difficult and expensive. Metallurgic dusts and sludges (MDS) are waste from iron manufacturing and steel plants, which is entrapped in dust removal plants. Content of heavy metals is too big for direct recycling so MDS are deposited on waste dump. Our idea is co ? pyrolysis of PVC and MDS when formed HCl gas converts selectively adducts of heavy metals to soluble chlorides, which can be washed by water and used to heavy metals recovery. Insoluble residue which contains mainly iron oxides and coke from PVC, can be recycled in iron metallurgy.
