Description	This paper is aimed at presentation of analysis and to give proposal of solution the process of appreciation of inquiries in a metallurgical enterprise. Quick answer to a customer's inquiry belongs in the present-day competition environment to the main criteria that decide about confirmation of order. However, a great volume of inquiries in the metallurgical enterprises are individual and specific to such an extent that their appreciation needs consultation of several departments. Of course this prolongs the process. The authors have proposed solution by the expert system that could help in real time to evaluate the inquiry. At present there is compiled and tested the first version of the knowledge base for technological and manufacturing appreciation of steel plates at the VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. for realization of which the expert system PC-SHELL was applied.
