Description
  • Ash originating from combustion of plant biomass is an effective agent to eliminate zinc, copper and lead from aqueous solutions. The experiments of metal elimination from aqueous solutions made use of stoker boiler ash samples from industrial boilers combusting biomass, namely corn and rape straw and wooden chips, along with model solutions of zinc, copper and lead. Examining the metal elimination from aqueous solutions, batched ash doses were tested. Both the types of ash added into the individual metal solutions increased pH and decreased the metal concentration in the solution. Based on the obtained results, optimal doses for both ash types were determined resulting in maximum removal of a selected metal from the solution under specified conditions. Using the effective dose, over 90 % of zinc, 95 % of copper and 99 % of lead were removed.
