Description	This paper deals with the analysis of economic efficiency of producing fast growing poplars for the energy production purposes. The model based analysis reflects the real production conditions. There are two main final products considered - energy chips and fuel wood. The economic efficiency is assessed with the use of net present value indicator. The results show that growing poplars for chips production only is not economically efficient as the real production conditions do not provide sufficient sources to generate profit during the expected time period. The project is economically viable once the production of fuel wood is considered. Energy wood seems to be an economically appropriate source of fuel in comparison with other substitute and conventional fossil fuels.
