  • The visualization Results of viscous incompressible isothermal fluid flow in the gap between two concentric cylinders, one of which rotates. The flow was investigated for wide marrow narrow gaps between the cylinders. Boundary is set by a ratio s/R = 4.10-3. The visualization of L-T transition flow gives data regarding development of these instabilities when Reynolds number Re = ?.R2/ ? is rising. There are four types of instabilities in the narrow gap. They start from concentric circles develop through two types of spirals and end up as rollers. In the case of the wide gap there is gradual development similar to Taylor vortexes of spirals which are oriented in the opposite direction of the ones for a narrow gap. Base regime, wavy regime and wavy turbulent regime can be identified for the wide gap. It is relatively difficult to identify the beginning of fully developed turbulent flow.
