Description
| - Major accidents involving dangerous substances have three types of targets: human health and lives, environment and property. The most frequent impact of chemical release is an environmental pollution, in some cases serious and long-lasting and as a result, major accidents are considered to be environmentally important and generally they are the part of environmental legislation. Nevertheless, the methodologies for analysis of possible environmental impact of chemical accidents are not well-established yet and methods like ERA (Environmental Risk Assessment) are not suitable, because are not suited for high concentrations and short-time effects of accidents. The objective of presented contribution is an overview of methods of analysis of chemical accident impact on environment used in Europe in the framework of Seveso and IPPC Directives. The overview and research have been done in wider cooperation of partners of project SHAPE-RISK, Co-ordination action under the Contract No.: NMP2-CT-2003-505555.
