Description	In this paper the author would like to introduce twenty years long process in Czech Republic from the first encounters with brownfields phenomena, along the journey from pasportization, creating catalogue databases, using the databases, to the present situation of dealing with this derelict and underused land. The paper is divided into three parts. In the beginning author prepared a short summarization of the outcomes of creating the first brownfields database in the city of Ostrava. The second part focuses on the national level with comments on pros and cons of this process, contains a description of brownfields projects (mostly with international participation) in Czech Republic which were aimed at creating brownfields databases. The projects mentioned are used also to demonstrate society's awareness in brownfields development. The last part of the paper describes some key issues that are associated with brownfields pasportization.
