Description
| - Talc-rich rocks (talc, chlorite-talc or chlorite-actinolite-talc schists) from the Sobotín region (North-West Moravia, Czech Republic) were broadly used for stone and sculpture work in the region during the 17th to 19th centuries. On a numer of small monuments, various weathering features like fissuring or flaking due to freezing water occur. The example of Crucifix from the Klepáčov municipality shows an alternative approach to restoration of this rock type using acrylic resin (Paraloid B72) for consolidation of disintigrated parts. For modelling of the missing parts (edge profilig, detached ornaments) the mixture of acrylic resin with crushed original rock was used thus creating true imitation of talc schist that is not mined in the Czech republic any more. On the contrary, the consolidation tests using organosilicons, mentioned in the literature, did not prove their usability for ultrabasic rocks.
