Description
  • Adsorption capabilities of altered bituminous coals towards phenol and cyclohexanol from aqueous solutions were examined. Adsorption isotherms were found to be succesfully fitted by Langmuir´model with coefficients of determination R2 0,87. For all investigated samples,adsorbed amount of phenol was markedly higher than that of cyclohexanol indicating specific PI-PI interactions beetween aromaatic circle of phenol and aromatic system of coal to play decisive role. Bounding energy of these PI-PI interactions was estimated from calorimetric measurements giving value 57+8 kJ/mol. (en)
