  • Many of the properties of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA), such as inertness, light specific weight, biocompatibility, permeability, and ease of preparation into various shape, contribute to its attractiveness for medical applications. Aim of this article is to give a selected review of its applications in areas such as ophthalmology, soft tissues substitutes, otolaryngology, dentristry, orthopaedy, or biotechnology.
