Description	A general statistical test of the stability of measurementconditions was demonstrated on the .beta.-spectra of .sub.241 Pucumulated during four years. The .alfa.- and .tau.-ray spectroscopyindicated stability of the .sub.241 Pu source. Monte Carlomodelling of individual collision events clarified the roleof electron scattering and energy losses within a radioactive source down to energies of several hundreds of eV. The impact ionization by .beta.-particles of carbon and oxygen atomsin a surface contamination layer on the .sub.241 Pu and .sub.63 Ni sources was observed.
