Description	The labial gland of Bombus mesomelas is strongly reduced and the secretion does not contain the most volatile compounds that are present in the secretions of all other bumblebee species. These secretions correspond to cuticular hydrocarbons that can be found generally in all bumblebee species. This was also the case for Bombus pomorum, another bumblebee species from the same Rhodobombus subgenus. This atypical composition of the male cephalic labial gland secretions seems to indicate that these secretions are not used to attract virgin females from a long distance. (en) Labiální žláza čmeláčího druhu Bombus mesomelas je silně redukovaná a její sekret neobsahuje těkavé látky typické pro jiné druhy čmeláků. Obsahovými látkami jsou uhlovodíky, které se podobají uhlovodíkům z kutikuly. Stejná situace je známa i u příbuzného druhu Bombus pomorum (podrod Rhodobombus). Atypické složení sekretu labiální žlázy samců naznačuje, že tento sekret není používán k nalákání samiček, jako je to známo u ostatních druhů čmeláků. (cs)
