Description
  • A numerical computation of ultrasonic energy density distribution supported finding of sonoreactor geometry, in which the ultrasonic intensity peaks in a long distance from the horn with the theoretical maximum more than 1000x higher than is the initial intensity at the horn surface [10]. The theoretical prediction has been experimentally proved. However, when developing a sono-electrolyser, it has been found, that a small change from optimised geometry and/or the presence of other material inside the reactor strongly disturbs the %22resonance%22 and decreases the maximal intensity of ultrasound. Though that, an arrangement has been found (by choice of material, size and shape of cell and electrodes) with an immersed electrochemical cell, where the ultrasonic intensity in the vicinity of the working electrode is safely higher than cavitation threshold even with the excitation ultrasonic energy at the horn as slow as 10 W.

(cs)
