  • Fischer carbene complexes of transition metals have found wide synthetic applications. Processes like the cyclopropanation1 and the metathesis or polymerisation of olefins2 are of equal industrial and theoretical importance. Significant intermediates in these reactions are carbene-(h2-alkene) complexes that are usually not stable and could be isolated only in exceptional cases. However, chelated (h2-allylamino)carbene complexes of Cr, W and Fe are stable and can therefore serve as a model for study of the properties of carbene-(h2-alkene) complexes of transition metals.Among other interesting features of these systems restricted rotation around aromate - carbene carbon bond has been observed. The aim of this study was to find the origin of the restricted rotation and to examine factors that influence activation parameters.
