  • We study effects of convective transport on chemical signal propagation at a simple (single layer) epithelium by means of mathematical modeling. Oscillatory flow regime was considered. In this regime, the extracellular medium periodically oscillates above the epithelium. Oscillatory flow can be seen for example in vessels of mammals. We carried out simulations using Comsol Multyphisics 3.5. Results suggest that signal propagation velocity U increases with increasing amplitude. Dimensionless velocity U is also dependent on period. At lower period, the velocity U is almost the same as in case with stagnant extracellular medium. With longer period, the velocity U becomes higher with maximum at period 10 000 second. Results were confirmed by carrying out simulations using three-point differential substitutions in Maltab.
