Description
| - The generation of electrostatic charge is the unwanted phenomenon in many technologies and applications including powders and polymers. Systematic understanding of the charge generation process and the first-principles description of electrostatic charge in dependence on involved objects and surrounding environment is missing. One of goals of this study is to present our initial effort in addressing the electrostatic charge of non-polar polymers, e.g., of compact polyolefin films and of polyolefin powder. We concentrate on effects of: (i) surface roughness, (ii) temperature, (iii) composition of surrounding gas, (iv) charge generation process. Two apparatuses employed in this research are introduced. In the first setup is the polymer sample (powder or film) negatively charged by corona discharge created by high voltage needle electrode.
