| - Barley primarily serves as a major animal feed crop; smaller amounts of barley are used in health foods and in the malting process. Weight per thousand barley kernels and amount of grain (free of extraneous material) retained on a 2.5 mm sieve are main determinants of its quality. - Ječmen se používá především jako výborné krmivo pro zvířata, menší množství jsou využívána jako potravina pro zdravou výživu a ve sladovnictví. Hlavními kritérii kvality jsou hmotnost 1000 zrn a množství zrna (mimo nečistoty), které zůstane na sítě o světlosti oka 2,5 mm. Podrobné geometrické parametry obilných zrn jsou důležité pro návrh procesů potravinářského inženýrství, jako jsou transport, sušení, mletí, sladovnický proces apod. Cílem výzkumu bylo: - určit velikost zrn vybraných odrůd ječmene, - navrhnout pět geometrických modelů zrn ječmene a určit, který z nich nejlépe odpovídá objemu, určenému pyknometricky. Analýza obrazu byla využita k určení rozměru, objemu a povrchu 100 zrn vybraných odrůd Hordeum vulgare L.. Data o každém fotografovaném zrnu byla uchována pro další využití, společně s průměrem, směrodatnou odchylkou, variačním koeficientem, archivovány byly i jednotlivé fotografie.
