Description	In this paper an application of the external microfiltration unit for cross-flow filtration to on-line biomass concentration and level control in a 7-litre laboratory bioreactor during different cultivations is presented. The microfiltration unit enablescontinuous operation with complete or partial cell recycle and on-line automatic HPLC analyses of the medium too. The control algorithm is implemented in a programmable logic controller using two inputs (digital level sensor and on-line biomass concentr ation probe signals) and generating two outputs (solenoid valves control signals). In future, this equipment will be used for experiments in the field of food and related wastes degradation using thermophilic populations.
