  • Equol is a biologically active metabolite of isoflavonoid daidzein, which is the principle of food supplements designated for women in climacterium. The conversion from daidzein to equol is caused by the intestinal microflora. Therefore this microflora differs bethween individuals, the production of equol isn?t uniform. Equol is a chiral molecule. Always S-equol rise by the action of intestinal microflora in human body, R-equol was prepared only synthetically. S-equol acts as a weak agonist in estrogen receptors β and therefore is in many cases a good alternative to hormone replacement therapy. The object of this study was to optimize the competitive enzyme-liked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method for the determination of equol in human body fluids using enantiometrically pure standards.
