  • A set of samples (fruit bodies and submersion cultures) originated from wood mushrooms of genera Phellinus and Inonotus were analysed by FT-IR (transmittance of KBr pellets, ATR) and FT-NIR (diffuse reflectance) spectroscopy. Purification of some samples by washing with dilute HCl in 80% ethanol led to some spectroscopic changes, which were more pronounced for submersion cultures. Normalised spectra were used for hierarchy cluster analysis (HCA), and second derivatives (SD) of these spectra for principal component analysis (PCA). Fruit bodies and submersion cultures were successfully discriminated by HCA (Ward method, Manhattan distances) and by a principal component (PC) 1, which accounted for 46 % (FT-IR transmittance), 61 % (FT-IR ATR) and 78 % (FT-NIR) of the variation in all variables.
