  • Toxicity of mono- and dichlorobiphenyls, intermediates and products of bacterial and plant PCB metabolism was studied using tests involving prokaryots (luminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri) as model organisms and experiments studying the viability and growth of three bacterial species with Bioscreen? apparatus. The toxicity of particular compounds was tested also with eukaryotic models - seeds of Lactuca sativa var. capitata and hairy root culture of Solanum nigrum. Hydroxychlorobiphenyls, products of plant PCB metabolism were the most toxic compounds for Vibrio fischeri. PCB congeners and their products of bacterial metabolism, the chlorobenzoic acids, exhibited lower toxicity. PCBs with chlorine in ortho position were more toxic than other congeners. Hydroxyderivates of PCB with one chlorine were more toxic than dichlorinated ones. When studiing chlorobenzoates, monochlorobenzoates did not exhibit high toxicity.

  • Toxicita mono- a dichlorovaných bifenylů, intermediátů a produktů metabolismu bakteriálních a rostlinných buněk byla sledována testy s prokaryotními modelovými organismy - s luminiscenční bakterií Vibrio fischeri a sledováním viability tří druhů bakteriálních buněk na přístroji Bioscreen?. Stejné látky byly podrobeny testům na eukaryotních modelech - semenech druhu Lactuca sativa var. capitata a hairy root kulturách Solanum nigrum. Pro bakteriální systém Vibrio fischeri byly nejtoxičtější hydroxychlorbifenyly - produkty rostlinného metabolismu PCB, zatímco výchozí PCB a chlorbenzoové kyseliny - produkty bakteriálního metabolismu v přítomnosti kyslíku, vykazovaly nižší toxicity. Při srovnání toxicit jednotlivých derivátů PCB je zřejmý toxičtější efekt u PCB s chlorem v poloze ortho. V případě hydroxychlorbifenylů byly monochlorderiváty jedny z nejtoxičtějších, u chlorbenzoových kyselin byly naopak monochlorbenzoáty nejméně toxické. (cs)
