| Description
| - The process for the isolation of yeast glycan under laboratory conditions was transferred to the pilot plant scale for production of 1kg batches of powder. Two possibilities were assessed for optimization of the process. Scheme 1 consists of an 8 step process. Scheme 2 was essentially the same except that glycan was extracted at different temperature and time and was differently purified. Standard small pilot equipment available in Prague was used for these trials. Following on from these small-scale runs, three production scale trials of yeast glycan production were performed at VUP Modra, Slovakia. Spent brewing yeast for the trials was obtained from the Cerna Hora brewery. All glycan extractions were performed in a stirred 800litre reactor heated by a steam jacket. One lot was represented by 30 kg of glycan yeast powder. The theoretical design work has been done to plan a full scale process plant for the process of extracting glycan from spent yeast.
